Arunachal Pradesh – The Unexplored Destination

Located in northeast India and voted as the 4th best destination in the world by Lonely Planet, Arunachal Pradesh is quickly becoming an upcoming off beat destination for tourists. Known as the ‘Land of the dawn-lit mountains’, it sits at a confluence of the countries – Tibet, Bhutan, Burma and China. It is also known as the "Orchid State of India" and is the largest among the group of eastern states, commonly known as Seven Sisters. Historically, Arunachal Pradesh remained shrouded in mystery. It was relatively an unknown place and was so remote that the monstrous Himalayan peaks have not been named, let alone climbed.

However, now after travel restrictions have been eased and infrastructure improved, this extraordinary place is now ripe for exploring. The land here is mountainous with the Himalayan ranges running north south. The nature reserves teeming with a diversity of wildlife is unmatched compared to any in India. The forests are inhabited by intricately tattooed tribal peoples and the mountain valleys are dotted with majestic Buddhist monasteries. One such monastery is the 400-year-old Twang Gompa which is one of the world’s largest. Make sure to visit the Mechuka Valley when you are there. This valley up till now was an unexplored Buddhist royal domain amongst the towering, snow-covered mountains of the region. Travelling through the newly opened road is one of the most exciting experiences in India and if you are seeking to explore this amazing destination with picturesque mountains, then Arunachal Pradesh is the place for you.

Nowhere else in India can you see this extraordinary beauty, the unexplored passes, tranquil lakes and some famous Buddhist monasteries, tucked away in the north east tip of India. For the wildlife enthusiasts Arunachal Pradesh offers a variety of rare wildlife, flora and fauna. There are more than 500 species of birds and has its own exclusive variety of orchids. Also, Arunachal Pradesh claims to have all major species of the big cats in its jungles – tigers, leopards, snow leopards and the clouded leopards.

A land with a healthy climate with intriguing traditional lifestyles of 26 tribes and 110 sub tribes, it has many vibrant and colourful festivals. Tucked away in the north eastern most tip of India, Arunachal Pradesh has many unexplored passes, tranquil lakes, snow- capped picturesque mountains and famous monasteries. An amazing holiday destination with extraordinary beauty found nowhere else on earth. A place where you would like to return time and again.
