Loktak Lake, Manipur

Loktak Lake, manipur
Loktak Lake, Manipur. The biggest freshwater lake of northeast India, located near Moirang town in Manipur, needs immediate care and attention. Due to increasing growth of the biomass (huts built on natural floating wetlands) is not only threatening freshness of the lake water but has led to disappearance of indigenous variety of fishes normally found. There are other numerous factors which have led to the deteriorating conditions of the lake. some of the prominent factors are; accumulation of wastes carried into the lake by rivers and streams, rampant felling of trees in the catchment areas resulting in siltation and uncontrollable rotting of the bio-masses due to absolute absence of protective mechanism. Loktak Lake, is a source of livelihood to thousands of fishermen, A great tourist destination in north east and a support to sustainable ecological conditions of mother earth. Its high time that Loktak Lake needs to be preserved and sustained.
